Half Moon special…

A Half Moon Walking Workshop Special

Thursday 21st June 2012

Half Moon are working in conjunction with Worcester Literary Festival to create a Choral Poem for Worcester.

We’re looking for six writers to take part in a day-long workshop with novelist, playwright and poet David Calcutt. Participants will write, rehearse and perform a Group Choral Poem. Briefly, this is how it will work:

Beginning at 9am the morning will be spent visiting a number of key locations in the city of Worcester (all within walking distance of each other) and writing individually about those locations. After lunch, the writers will share their work, then work collaboratively to create a Group Poem from what they have written. In the latter part of the afternoon the writers will work to shape and rehearse the poem as a choral performance. In the evening, the writers will perform the Worcester Choral Poem at the Parole Parlate Literary Festival Special.

What could be simpler?

The cost: £25 per person – to cover the cost of tuition.

Please note: The event is for writers who can write on demand, respond directly to environment, work collaboratively, and enjoy performing.

If you’d like to take part, please email david@valleyprojects.org to register your interest. We’ll be in touch after 9th June to let you know how to go about booking your place. We look forward to hearing from you!

Old into New, with Maria McCann…

Suitable for families, individuals, and ramblers alike, this course will focus on mining traditional material (folktale, fairytale, myth) to produce something contemporary.  Writers will climb the stunning Glastonbury Tor, taking in the breathtaking scenes over Somerset Levels, Dorset, Wiltshire and Wales. The walk itself is set to last one hour, including a series of writing exercises for engagement, before heading to the George and Pilgrim Inn for some delicious lunch & refreshments.

What follows is, at the moment, a surprise. But if you like the sound of this already please contact us to reserve a place.

You will need…

…a folk story, fairytale or myth to use as your raw material, comfortable shoes for climbing, and a warm jumper or similar for the top of the Tor (it can be very windy up there).  NB myth lovers welcome, but you definitely don’t have to be one.  This isn’t a spiritual workshop, it’s all about shaping and crafting raw material.
